MS Earth Week 2013 Plans


For Earth Week 2013 MMS students will be working on a few things and then sharing them in some way.
1/Creating posters with recyclables to feature in the cafeteria (Gang Green club)

2/Creating posters of current containers and utensils in the cafeteria showcasing their recyclable content, ability to be compostable, ability to be 
recycled. (Debbie Bossie has done an incredible job sourcing for our cafeterias) 

3/Gail Hannigan in Healthy living is having her students work on posters re: healthy food choices which will be posted in the cafeteria.

4/ hang new "Got Milk" posters in the cafeteria and monitor milk purchases as a result. (Gang Green club)

5/performing an energy audit on the school (Gang Green club)

6/The 7th grade is doing a L.I. Sound study and Marc is planning to encourage that they share their findings re: water conservancy with the MMS students.

G-R-E-E-N

Monday:         G is for Go Garden!

-Earth Day! Garden Committee responsible for this day.


Tuesday:        R is for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

-Green Committee responsible for this day which includes DEG 1st Grade pre/recycling presentation.


Wednesday:   E is for Energize!

-Green Committee responsible for this day of simple, active, energizing acts like walking/biking/riding bus to school, picking up trash, bringing reusable water bottles to refill in hydration stations, etc.


Thursday:      E is for Eat Healthy!

-Health Ed Committee responsible for this day.


Friday:           N is for No Waste!

-Green Committee responsible for encouraging students to wear green on this final day of Earth Week, incorporating DEG 4th grade water conservation presentation, arranging for Darien Nature Center to present Save LI Sound/sea turtles to 4th and 5th graders (K thru 3rd grades have “Planet Earth” presentation.

-The week before: E-Blast goes out to faculty, parents.
-Each day: Stand-alone-mail blasts go out re. next day.
-Each morning: PA announcements made by student
